Book on Out-of-Body Experience Science & Practice features I-ACT co-founder
Many discussions surrounding phenomena such as out-of-body experiences focus on debating whether or not such experiences are "real" or not. Such debates often overlook the obvious: these can be extraordinary experiences that can have positive, transformative, inspirational, or creative effects on individuals - regardless of their ultimate nature. The fact that they are naturally-occuring and the object of human fascination and inspiration throughout the times is reason enough to study them. In other posts, we discussed how such experiences have played an important role in the rise of the design and information age and how they can be important for personal and societal change in these times of crises, when we seek a new story for humanity.
The Centre for Exceptional Human Potential (Melbourne, Australia) has just released an e-book anthology edited by Alexander De Foe, PhD, an academic and counseling psychologist interested in exploring altered and transcendent states of human consciousness.
Consciousness Beyond the Body: Evidence and Reflections presents the latest theories, research, and applications of out-of-body experiences (OBEs) and other consciousness states that transcend the limitations of one’s physical body space. It features original chapters from leading international researchers, educators, and practitioners who specialise in OBEs. As a modern compilation on the topic, the book aims to meld contemporary scientific evidence with the latest and most compelling practical applications of OBEs.
The volume's opening chapter is by I-ACT co-founder Nelson Abreu that aims to define the nature of the out-of-body experience experience. It features other prominent OBE practitioners and authors: Luis Minero, Ed Kellogg, Ryan Hurd, Robert Peterson, Preston Dennett, Graham Nicholls, Jurgen Ziewe, Clare Johnson, Robert Waggoner, Alexander De Foe, Natasha Tassell-Matamua, Anthony Peake, and Robert Bruce.
The book is now available for free download on our webstore.
Praise for Consciousness Beyond the Body
“This remarkable book serves as a metaphor for the current status of this enigmatic field – the efforts of psi researchers to transcend and expand mainstream understandings of living systems. ‘Consciousness Beyond the Body’ is unlike anything I have read in the parapsychological literature and it is especially needed in order to understand the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of OBEs.”
– Alejandro Parra, Ph.D., Faculty of Psychology, Universidad Abierta Interamericana, Argentina
“It is a rare pleasure to read a book on the out-of-body state from a variety of different perspectives by experts in the field. ‘Consciousness Beyond the Body’ not only shows how collaboration between renowned authors is possible, it also provides an exciting glimpse at what such a collaboration can accomplish. From theory to practice and controversies, ‘Consciousness Beyond the Body’ provides a rich and up-to-date account of out-of-body states. Anyone with an interest in these mystifying, yet universal experiences, will find this book of great value. I highly recommend it!”
– Frederick Aardema, Ph.D., clinical researcher, Université de Montréal, Canada
“Having spent a considerable amount of my time personally researching the OBE studies of Karlis Osis and Alex Tanous, I can thoroughly appreciate the depths and complexities of studying such phenomena. The evidence on the whole suggests that perhaps these experiences are not purely internal processes. While in an OBE, in some cases, it appears that information is obtained by some aspect of consciousness leaving the body – information of which the percipient would not have otherwise known about by using conventional sensory means. ‘Consciousness Beyond the Body’ is a welcomed anthology of varying contemporary research on the out-of-body state and first hand experiences, which I believe will be great use to scholars and students of today.”
